While Prague’s architectural beauty is world renowned, perhaps playing golf at one of the three amazing courses 30 minutes from the city center is not as well-known. Thus, making Prague a hidden golf gem. For those who want to add golf to a cultural trip or want to go on a golf getaway and add some culture, arts, great hotels and gastronomy Prague is for YOU. On my recent trip to Prague, I was eager to explore golf courses, art, culture and cuisine and it all started with my arrival at the Fairmont.
STAY
For anyone who appreciates history, architecture, art, fashion and gastronomy the Fairmont Golden Prague does not disappoint. Incredible imagination, love and a recent multimillioneuro renovation, turned this iconic 1970s Brutalist landmark building into a modern expression of Czech creativity and luxury while honoring its architectural roots. The renovation does an amazing job of putting on grand display the art and craftsmanship renowned in the Czech Republic.
Ideally located on the banks of the Vltava River at the gateway to elegant Pařížská Boulevard, it was central to all the cultural sites and provided amazing views from my room as well as the roof top restaurants.
Lead architect Marek Tichý ensured the renovation preserved the building’s Brutalist roots and that every original craft element was restored: blownglass chandeliers, gilded lighting, and elegant ash-wood posts were carefully brought back to life. Hence the feeling you are part of a live art exhibition at every turn in the hotel. There are six restaurants here are three that deserve to be mentioned and experienced.
- Zlatá Praha — This fine-dining restaurant experience with amazing views over Prague and the Vltava River will not disappoint. New design with old world feels where time has no importance.
- Golden Eye — This rooftop also has views as spectacular as their culinary skills. This is a modern Asian cuisine in a James Bond inspired, cosmopolitan setting
- Coocoo’s Nest — This takes the ever-present hotel lobby bar to the next level offering coffee and drinks throughout the day and night. Named after Miloš Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the contemporary art and light instillation above the bar helps explain the name.
